Srinagar, Apr 29 (KNO): Scores of residents, mostly women, on Wednesday staged a protest in Mir Abad area of Batmaloo here against acute water shortage, blocking the Batmaloo-Tengpora main road and disrupting traffic movement for some time. Eyewitnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the protesters assembled on the road in the morning, raising slogans against the authorities for failing to ensure regular drinking water supply in the locality. The protesting women said the area has been without water for several days, causing severe inconvenience to residents. “We have been without water for many days. Our daily routine has been badly affected and despite repeated requests, no one is listening to us,” said a protester. Another resident said the shortage has caused immense hardship for families, especially women, children and the elderly. “We are forced to fetch water from far-off places,” she said. The protesters urged the concerned department to restore water supply without delay, warning of intensified agitation if the issue remains unresolved. Meanwhile, traffic movement on the busy Batmaloo-Tengpora road was affected due to the protest. —(KNO)
